White kitchen with pale blue cabinetry, marble island and brass fixtures

Full renovation · 2025

Kitsilano Kitchen

A closed-off galley in a 1940s Kitsilano character home, opened up and rebuilt around a single marble island.

The brief

The family cooked every night in a dark galley kitchen that turned its back on the garden. They wanted one room where two people could work at once, plus a place for the kids to sit while dinner happened.

What we did

We removed the wall to the old dining room, ran pale blue shaker cabinetry the full length of the north wall, and set a single honed marble island under new glazing. Unlacquered brass warms the whites as it ages.

Client words

Michelle understood the house better than we did. The kitchen finally feels like the room the rest of the home was built around.
